Investor
One of my other passions besides coding is trading. Trading was actually the gateway for me to understand code and dive deeper into the practice. The fact that you code simple algorithms to retrieve certain data that isn’t provided by the program is a game-changer. An example of this is to retrieve a higher moving day average out of a 60 day time period compared to other stocks. That isn’t a given option to click on in TOS but with a simple algorithm you could find out where participants are paying more attention in the market compared to other stocks.
I used to have a stretch goal of building full trading algorithms. I also noticed voicing my goals lead me to professional algorithmic traders from wall street that gave me comprehensive blueprints. Even though I couldn’t comprehend all the topics of API’s, not being able to beat Wall Street, C+, and Python. I was ecstatic they gave me a foundation to move forward.
The foundation was the beginning of my rabbit hole to become a coder. I started YouTubing about the topic, reading certain books, and joining Quantopian to learn steadily of algorithms. This lead me to the first language I learned which was Python. I fell in love with it and was plotting data of cash flow statements and balancing sheets to understand value investing that Warren Buffet preaches.
The fact that I fell in love with it personally lead me to join Flatiron School to understand multiple languages across the board professionally. And this all started with wanting to be a better investor. It’s crazy how life works.
